Here is a list of our most frequently asked questions, so please read this and don't make me repeat myself. If you have an unanswered question about the Vieques Stories Project, email the author.
Will I get paid for this?
Yes. If your story is printed or we use your voice recording, untold fame and fortune will be bestowed upon you and, by a strange and indecipherable quantum extension, your children’s children.
What’s the deadline?
April, 20th, 2009. So get crackin.
What if I can’t write?
Find or “borrow” a video camera or voice recorder, tell your story (try not to read it, unless you're good at reading stories) and then send me the tape or mp3 or whatever you make. Lots of laptops have voice recorders built right in. Keep it to 5 minutes, and don’t worry, we’ve got a whole production studio to edit it down with. Feel free to record extra sounds that will support your story and don’t worry about the video quality, all I want is your voice.
How long should my story be?
Less than 5000 words (about a page and a half single-spaced) for written submissions or between 5-7 minutes for audio recordings.
Will this be presented on the internet?
No. I’m writing a book, not a blog. You will need to sign a release form with your submission which says this can only be used in the Vieques Service Industry Stories book and CD. (not the publishing title)
What if my story has already been published in a book or on the internet?
Write another one. I want new material. Stop being so lazy, damnit.
What about all the suckers who are going to rip off your idea and write their own crappy books?
Go for it suckers. We know who you are, where you live, and more than a handful of tecatos who’ll do anything for a few bucks.
